The Shire of Kulin has been announced as the joint winner of the Strengthening Families and Communities Category in the Premiers Awards for Excellence in Public Sector Management.
Out of 50 nominations across 7 categories Camp Kulin was the smallest entrant, and made it through the eight month selection process to be named joint winner of their category alongside the Department of Sport and Recreation’s Kidsport program.
The internationally recognised Camp Kulin program, established in 2013, has grown rapidly. It now provides local area programming for children in the Wheatbelt, general camps open to any child in Western Australia, and specialised scholarship camps for children affected by childhood trauma, including domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse and torture/trauma situations in their home countries.
The Camp Kulin program is run with the support of a team of volunteers from across WA and interstate, who contribute in excess of $250,000 of their time each year to the program. The program is also supported by generous individual, organisation and corporate sponsors who donate towards the costs of scholarship campers attending a week at camp.
The Premier’s Awards recognise and celebrate world-class achievements by those involved in the delivery of public services, and the awards play an important role in motivating agencies to become more innovative in meeting the community’s needs.
The Awards were open to any project from the public sector, including state government, statutory authorities, local government and public universities.
