Fun Games to Play When Camping: Take the Fun Outdoors
Camping is the perfect way to get away from it all and enjoy some quality family time. And it’s even more fun when you have a few games to play during your trip. Whether you’re looking to keep the kids entertained or just enjoy some relaxed adult fun, there is surely a game for everyone.
As a father of three active kids and an experienced camper, I have picked out some of my favorite camping games for your family that will keep everyone laughing and entertained for hours. Let’s get started.
1. A Nature Scavenger Hunt
A scavenger hunt is a classic game that can easily be tailored to the outdoors. Make up a list of items that can be found in nature (bird feather, pine cone, leaf, acorn, etc.), or download a free ready-made one from the web. Split up into teams and first team to cross everything off the list wins.
Be sure not to limit the hunt to the campsite, and encourage the kids to explore the surrounding forests and paths.
2. Sack Races
Sack races are a tried-and-true favorite. All you need to play is an old pillowcase or sack and two cones to mark the starting and finish lines. Set up a course and have everyone jump in a sack and race against each other for a fun time. You can make it even more exciting by setting up obstacles along the course.
3. Campfire Music
Gather around the campfire and take turns making up a song, spoken word, rap, or poem. Entrust someone to be the judge for the evening and the one that comes up with the best lyrical content wins. Have some extra camping instruments around and let everyone join in for a singalong.
4. Glow-in-the-Dark Ring Toss
Bring some glow-in-the-dark fun to your campsite by making your own glow-in-the-dark ring toss game. All you need is some glow sticks, some rope, and some markers or paint pens. Once it’s all set up, take turns tossing the rings and see who can get the most on the target.
5. Shark Attack
Shark Attack is fun for people of all ages. Have everyone lie down in a circle and pick out a “shark”. The shark swims around the circle and taps each person on the shoulder, sending them away to swim in a different circle or pool of water (or a different room). The shark continues to tap people until they’re the only one left in the “ocean”, making them the winner.
6. Tales Around the Campfire
One of the best parts of camping is gathering around the campfire at night. Unwind after a long day and let the kids take turns telling stories. It can be scary stories, funny ones, or tales about their day – it’s all in the fun! Encourage the audience to add to the stories as they go.
