Never Miss Out on the Essentials – What to Take Beach Camping
If you’re planning a beach camping adventure, you’re most likely getting excited about some fun in the sun and an escape from your usual lifestyle. But before you dive in, it’s important to make sure you have the basics nailed, or risk being left without the essentials on-site. As an experienced camper and father of three kids, I have compiled a helpful list of what to take beach camping.

Tent and Sleeping Gear
Your tent and sleeping equipment should be your number one priority. After all, this is where you’ll be spending the majority of your time. Start with setting up a high-quality tent that is large enough to fit you and your family comfortably. Invest in a good quality sleeping bag, or multiple sleeping bags, depending on your group size. Make sure you also have enough blankets, pillows, and ground pads, too.
First Aid Kit
Accidents happen, no matter how safe and prepared you are. To avoid any unnecessary risks, make sure you have a fully stocked first aid kit on hand. Your kit should include things like antiseptic cream, gauze, bandages, scissors, and tweezers. Additionally, make sure you have anti-itch cream and stick-on plasters on hand for those pesky insect bites you’re likely to experience. If you or someone in your group is prone to certain allergies, don’t forget to pack an EpiPen or other medication to help in an emergency.
Cleaning Supplies
It’s important to keep your camp clean and organised, especially when camping near the beach as sand and water can make a mess quickly. Make sure you pack supplies that can handle grease, dirt, and stickiness, such as paper towels, cleaning wipes, sponges, biodegradable laundry soap, and large garbage bags. Don’t forget to bring biodegradable dish soap with you too, so you can wash up after meals.
Cooking Gear
No matter what you plan on making while camping, you will need some appropriate cooking tools and utensils. Make sure you stock your kitchen box with the basics like plates, cups, and cutlery. Additionally, you’ll need a good range of cookware such as saucepans, frypans, and a portable gas cooker or grill, as well as utensils like spatulas, spoons, and a knife. Don’t forget to bring along some seasonings, paper towels and foil as well.
Tools and Gadgets
Having a few basic tools and gadgets in your pockets can prove to be invaluable when beach camping. A Swiss Army Knife and multi-tool are great for a range of situations like cutting rope and unscrewing screws. Some twine is also helpful when putting up a makeshift shelter in case of rain. Additionally, you might want to bring things like a pocket torch, jump leads, a mobile battery pack, and an umbrella, just in case.
Personal Items and Clothes
Now it’s time to think about yourself and other campers. Make sure you and your family have enough clothes to cover all occasions. Even if you’re camping during the summer, don’t forget to bring along a few warm layers for those chilly nights. When it comes to personal items, pack what you need for your particular camping style. This may include things like sunscreen, moisturiser, bug spray, a hat, sunglasses, publications, and toys for the kids.
