What to Cook When Camping

When it comes to meals, there are lots of options for campers. Some of the most popular type of meals are sandwiches, pasta dishes, grilled or cooked meat, and soups. In addition there are options such as one pot meals, make ahead meals, and simple recipes you can use no matter where you are camping. Following are some of my favorite camping meals.

Sandwiches

Sandwiches are always a reliable camping meal since they’re easy to make and usually require minimal ingredients. For those looking for a quick and convenient meal, try toasting some burgers, or grilled cheese sandwiches over the fire pit. If you have some extra vegetables, you can add them in for more flavor and nutrition.

For a heartier option, put together a grilled BBQ chicken sandwich or make a veggie wrap by using some spinach tortillas, cheese, and your favorite vegetables.

Pasta Dishes

Pasta dishes can also be a great camping meal. You can make variations of pasta with different types of sauces. For a quick and simple dish, cook some macaroni and cheese or spaghetti and sauce in one pot. Hot dogs, sausage, and chicken can also be added in for more flavor and a protein boost.

If you have more time to cook, try making spaghetti Bolognese or a creamy mushroom sauce dish. Pack some extra cheese and vegetables to add more flavor to your pasta dishes.

Grilled or Cooked Meat

Grilling or cooking meat can make for a delicious camping meal. A popular option in my family is to prepare burgers, steaks, or sausages. You can even mix vegetables into the burger patties for more flavor.

If you don’t have a grill available, you can also cook your meat in a pan. You can also use foil packets with the meat and vegetables for an easy meal. Kebabs are also a great option since they’re easy to make and everyone can customize their own skewer.

One Pot Meals

When it comes to camping meals, one pot meals are a great choice since they don’t require a lot of ingredients or prep work. Some examples include chili, jambalaya, curry, and stew. You can also mix and match different types of vegetables and meat to create different flavors.

One pot meals are also great for larger groups since they can easily be doubled or tripled to feed a lot of people. They can be cooked in a big pot on the fire pit or in a Dutch oven when camping in a campsite.

Soups and Salads

Soups and salads can make for an easy and delicious camping meal. Soups are a great choice since they don’t require a lot of ingredients and can easily be cooked in one pot. You can make a simple vegetable soup or add meat for more flavor.

Salads are also a great option since the components can be easily pre-made and stored in individual containers for easy transport. Grilled vegetables also make a great topping for salads. Cooked chicken or tuna can also added for a boost of protein.

Easy Meals When Camping

We have provided some of our favorite camping meals, but there are many more options for campers. No matter where you are or what kind of trip you are taking, there are easy meals that can be prepared. If you’re looking for something easy and convenient, consider pre-made meals or pre-made ingredients such as packets of noodles or grains. You can also opt for campfire-ready meals, which are pre-made and just need to be heated up on the campfire.

For breakfast, consider oatmeal or pancakes. For lunch, pre-made sandwiches and wraps are a great option. For dinner, you can make a campfire pizza or easy prep meals like tacos. Snacks are also important and can include trail mix, jerky, popcorn, and fruit. Don’t forget about dessert – campfire s’mores are always a classic or you can make cobblers with premade crusts. With some planning and creativity, your camping trip is sure to be filled with delicious meals that make the outdoors even more enjoyable!
